How to Care for Dekton
Dekton is renowned for its durability and low maintenance requirements. However, to ensure its longevity and keep it looking its best, follow these care tips:
- Cleaning: For daily cleaning, use a mild dish soap and water with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive sponges or cleaners that could damage the surface.
- Stain Removal: For stubborn stains, use a non-abrasive cleaner. For example, a mix of baking soda and water can help lift stains without scratching the surface.
- Heat Resistance: While Dekton is heat resistant, always use trivets or heat mats to avoid placing hot pots and pans directly on the surface to prevent thermal shock.
- Scratch Resistance: Although highly scratch-resistant, it's best to use cutting boards when preparing food to maintain the surface's pristine condition.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using bleach, oven cleaners, or other harsh chemicals on your Dekton surface as they can cause damage over time.
How Dekton is Made
Dekton is created using a sophisticated blend of raw materials used in the production of glass, porcelain, and quartz surfaces. The process involves several key steps:
- Selection of Raw Materials: High-quality raw materials, including glass, quartz, and porcelain, are carefully selected and blended.
- Particle Sintering: The blended raw materials are subjected to a high-pressure sintering process that compacts them into a dense, ultra-compact surface.
- High-Temperature Firing: The sintered material is then fired at extreme temperatures (over 1200°C), which fuses the particles together, creating a solid, non-porous surface.
- Cooling and Finishing: After firing, the slabs are slowly cooled to prevent thermal shock. They are then polished or textured to achieve the desired finish.
- Quality Control: Each slab undergoes rigorous quality control checks to ensure it meets the high standards required for Dekton surfaces.
